Well we are finally all packed up and all planned-out. The maps are in the appropriate boxes to be mailed and the gear is ready to fly to San Diego. Our house is packed up and ready for the renters to move in. Our first stop will be Brian's sister's house in Phoenix, 500 miles from San Diego. It should take us about 10 days to cover the distance.
We are excited and nervous in equal measure, and very ready to start our adventure. After the whirlwind of preparations over the past weeks, the pace of bicycle travel will suit us just right. We're not taking an "i" anything, but we will be able to keep in touch via email. We'll be stopping in libraries about once a week to update this blog and check in, and we sure do hope there will be emails waiting for us! We want to stay in touch and this blog is our way to share pictures and tales with those we will miss and those who we have yet to meet.
If you enjoy reading this, we would be happy to email you when we update it; please send your emails to Amy at sweetgardengirl@hotmail.com or to Brian at telesweet@hotmail.com.
Here we go.......
Hi, we’re Brian & Amy Sweet from Winthrop, Washington. In the fall of 2010, after being business owners for eight years, we decided to sell our small town bookstore, rent out our house, and hit the road with our bicycles. We packed our panniers with our camping gear and headed down to the start of our bicycle trip in San Diego on January 25, 2011. We rode our bicycles through the southern U.S. and then up to Washington DC. From there we flew to Portugal and cycled across Europe all the way to the Black Sea. We wanted to see as much of the world as we could, at the pace of slowly rolling bicycle wheels. We met the people, ate the food, and experienced the culture and scenery of many places unknown. After our six months of bicycling, we went on to our next part of our world wide tour to teach English to highschool students in China for the fall and winter months.
